Russian Prime Minister names condition for ruble’s attractiveness

Popularity of the Russian ruble will get on a par with the U.S. dollar only after the Russian Federation creates a financial center of its own

MOSCOW, April 17 (Itar-Tass) – Popularity of the Russian ruble will get on a par with the U.S. dollar only after the Russian Federation creates a financial center of its own, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday as he addressed the deputies of the State Duma.

“Unlike the Americans do with the dollar, we can’t print banknotes in line with our fancies,” he said. “But if other countries begin to accumulate the rubles along with the dollars, the Russian monetary unit will become attractive and we’ll be able to do it /printing unlimited amounts of cash rubles/ then.”
