Government approves draft energy agreement with South Africa

The draft agreement envisages, in particular, join projects in production, transportation, processing, storage, sales and the use of oil and gas, coal and other energy resources

MOSCOW, March 25 (Itar-Tass) – The Russian government has approved a draft intergovernmental agreement on energy cooperation with South Africa.

Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has given instructions to the Energy Ministry to hold talks with the South African side with the participation of the Russian Foreign Ministry and sign a document after an agreement has been reached.

The agreement is aimed at strengthening and developing bilateral energy cooperation on the principles of equality and mutual benefit, as well as expanding economic and scientific cooperation in that sector, further developing trade, economic and scientific-technical relations.

It involves the oil and gas, electricity and coal industry sectors, the sphere of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.

The draft agreement envisages, in particular, join projects in production, transportation, processing, storage, sales and the use of oil and gas, coal and other energy resources.

Besides, it envisages projects in the sphere of electricity production, exports and imports of electricity, the setting up of joint enterprises in the sphere of electricity production, as well as the development of Russian-South African partnership relations, encouragement of an exchange of information on ecologically clean technologies and power industry among state universities and technological centers.
