Russia seeks to develop gas cooperation with US – deputy minister

He also admitted that the United States has so far failed to get to the level of a global gas exporter

WASHINGTON, January 30 (Itar-Tass) – Russia is interested in developing cooperation with the United States in the gas sector, Russia’s Deputy Energy Minister Yuri Sentyurin said at a seminar at the Russian Embassy in Washington on Tuesday.

Russia and the US account for the bulk of gas production in the world, Sentyurin said. “Proceeding from that we are simply bound to cooperate in that sphere. And in this case the production of liquefied natural gas is one of priority guidelines,” he noted. He also admitted that the United States has so far failed to get to the level of a global gas exporter. However, according to him, new information about slate gas deposits in the country “has already led to major changes on the market”.

Sentyurin also reminded the audience that in 2012, 30 percent of trade on global gas markets fell to the share of liquefied natural gas. This is an impressive figure “and our companies see work in this direction as very promising,” he stressed.
