Fourth China International Consumer Products Expo kicks off in Hainan

Ireland will be the event’s guest of honor

HAIKOU /China/, April 13. /The 4th China International Consumer Products Expo opened in Hainan on Saturday. The event will feature more than 4,000 brands from more than 70 countries and regions of the world on April 13-18 at the Hainan International Exhibition Center in the city of Haikou.

Delegations from the UK, Mongolia and Malaysia will be participating for the first time this year. The total exhibition area of all pavilions will amount to 100 thousand square meters. meters. The expo is expected to attract about 55 thousand professional buyers.

According to the organizers, Ireland will be this year's guest of honor. France and the UK are also expected to present several consumer brands that have never before entered the Chinese market.

Russian participation

About 30 companies from Russia are participating in the exhibition's various events. These are mainly companies involved in automotive components, metal processing, chemical industry and agriculture. One such company is Russian truck maker KamAZ.

The Russian Export Center (REC) has organized a separate joint stand in one of the pavilions, which presents the potential of Russian companies working in the agro-industrial complex. The products presented there include honey, sausages, milk powder and confectionery, among others.

A platform for regional cooperation

This year's expo will also include 318 brands from 11 countries participating in the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). "The Hainan Expo has become an important platform and a strong indication that RCEP member countries share China's emerging opportunities and carry out international economic and trade activities," Sheng Qiuping, Vice Minister of Commerce of the People's Republic of China, said earlier.

This year, Tang Hua, Director of the Hainan Provincial Bureau of International Economic Development, announced that, for the first time, additional exhibition sites will be organized in areas such as duty-free stores, sailing, yachting and international health care in Haikou and Qionghai. All of these, he said, will offer unique consumption experiences and show the public the advantages of Hainan's free trade port to develop new formats in these areas.

Various venues at the expo are scheduled to host themed events focusing on areas such as tourism, retail, smart home, green finance, healthcare, international education and women's fashion. A rally around the island and a night carnival will also contribute to the atmosphere.

Yuanxiao, the exhibition's mascot, resembles a heart formed by two Hainan gibbons, a rare and endangered species found only in this Chinese province.

The first expo

The 1st China International Consumer Products Expo was held in Haikou on May 7-10, 2021. Representatives from 70 countries and regions, over 2,600 premium brands and more than 1,500 companies participated in the event. It attracted about 240 thousand visitors. It was the largest consumer goods exhibition in the Asia-Pacific region.

The expo was included in the program for the establishment of a free trade port in Hainan, which was published on June 1, 2020. On September 20 of the same year, the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party and the State Council of the People's Republic of China officially approved the event. It is organized by the Ministry of Commerce of the PRC and the Hainan government. It is China's first international exposition dedicated to consumer goods.

Chinese authorities see this expo as an important part of their efforts to build a free trade port on Hainan. The project implementation program envisages turning the island into a special customs zone.
