Natural gas motor fuel consumption in Russia to rise 4-6-fold by 2035 — energy ministry

The consumption of LNG is developing rapidly now, while the loading of filling stations with CNG is at a low level, Pavel Sorokin noted

MOSCOW, March 27. /TASS/. Russia’s Energy Ministry expects the consumption of natural gas motor fuel in the country to rise from the current around 2.5 bln cubic meters to 10-15 bln cubic meters in 2035, or 4-6 times, First Deputy Minister Pavel Sorokin said, adding that half of growth will be backed by liquefied natural gas (LNG), while the rest will be ensured by compressed natural gas (CNG).

"We expect consumption to rise more than four times by 2035, from 2.5 to 10-15 bln cubic meters in various scenarios. Half due to LNG and the other half due to compressed gas," he said at a meeting of the State Duma’s energy committee.

The consumption of LNG is developing rapidly now, while the loading of filling stations with CNG is at a low level, Sorokin noted.
