Aeroflot to assess impact of delayed aircraft deliveries on long-term strategy — CEO

The company plans to contract a second supplier of Russian aircraft, Sergey Aleksandrovsky noted

MOSCOW, March 19. /TASS/. Aeroflot is not worried about delayed supplies of Russian aircraft, Chief Executive Officer of the Russian air carrier Sergey Aleksandrovsky said, adding that the group will recalibrate the airline’s strategy through 2030.

"The only thing [regarding the company’s strategy through 2030] that should be taken note of <…> is that our industry has slightly adjusted plans on production of domestic aircraft, which is why we will need to reassess things, to see what impact, what influence this will have on our development strategy through 2030, we will assess it. We see nothing critical here, airlines obviously need domestic aircraft, safe and of high quality. So we will wait half a year or a year if necessary, but we will get aircraft that passengers will feel comfortable flying on," he said at a meeting on economic policy at the Federation Council (upper house of the parliament).

The company plans to contract a second supplier of Russian aircraft, the CEO added. Earlier, the group signed a framework contract on 339 Russian jets, and later it drew up a firm (advanced) contract for 52 of them.

Earlier reports said that serial production of MC-21 might start in 2024, supplies of the first six jets were also expected by the air carrier in 2024. Later head of Rostec Sergey Chemezov said that serial production of the MC-21 might start in 2025-2026. Later Rostec’s press service said that the supply of SSJ New and MC-21 aircraft had been rescheduled to 2026 and 2025, respectively. On the Il-114 Rostec expects to receive a license in the first half of 2024.
