MOSCOW, March 13. /TASS/. The Tagansky District Court of Moscow court fined the Viber messenger 800,000 rubles ($8,756) for a new episode related to refusal to delete banned content, the court’s press service told TASS.
A resolution of the Tagansky District Court of Moscow dated March 13, finds Viber Media guilty of committing an administrative offense under Part 2 of Article 13.41 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation (failure of the owner of a website to delete information or a web-page when the obligation to delete such information, such a web page, is included in the legislation of the Russian Federation) and imposes a penalty on this entity in the form of a fine in the amount of 800,000 rubles," the press service said, without specifying other details of the case. According to the Russian law, under this article the entity faces a fine of up to 4 million rubles ($43,833).
This is already the second time this messenger has been brought to administrative responsibility under this article. In June 2023, the company was fined 1 million rubles ($10,958) for a similar offense. Then the protocol against the company was drawn up due to publications in the resource communities of unreliable information about the special military operation in Ukraine, as well as about the number of losses and casualties among military personnel and civilians.
