E-commerce development to contribute to WTO reform — Russian economy minister

ABU DHABI, February 26. /TASS/. E-commerce development will make an input to the reform of the World Trade Organization (WTO) and will make the organization’s system more up-to-date, Russian Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov said in his video address to participants in the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference.

"We see progress in working out solutions in the e-commerce regulation sphere, which will facilitate evolution of the WTO reform. This will make the organization more up-to-date and capable of countering global challenges," Reshetnikov said.

The WTO is currently holding the 13th Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi. The agenda of the Conference comprises the continuing ban on customs duties application to electronic data transmissions, preparation of an e-commerce agreement and an agreement on simplifying investments for development purposes, the program of future negotiations in the agricultural sphere, and the second agreement on fisheries subsidies. Correspondence of the EU’s carbon border adjustment mechanism is also among topics for discussion.
