DUBAI, December 8. /TASS/. Without nuclear energy, the world will be unable to attain net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, Director of Rosatom's Development and International Business Unit Kirill Komarov said at the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28).

"No one can deny that achieving global carbon neutrality is impossible without nuclear energy. Nuclear energy is part of the future clean energy balance, and we are pleased to participate in the international climate dialogue," he said during a panel discussion.

On December 2, more than 20 countries participating in COP28 adopted a resolution asking to triple global nuclear power capacity by 2050 compared to 2020. The declaration has been signed by 22 nations, including the United Kingdom, Hungary, Canada, the Netherlands, the United Arab Emirates, Poland, the United States, Ukraine, Finland, France, Sweden, South Korea, and Japan. The Russian and Chinese delegations did not sign the document.

COP28 will be held until December 12 with over 70,000 attendees from various nations attening the conference, including representatives from large businesses and non-governmental groups, as well as researchers and journalists. Adviser to the President, Special Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Ruslan Edelgeriyev leads the Russian delegation.
