Japan to scale up LNG procurement from Brunei — newspaper

Japex is a member of the Sodeco consortium, which holds the 30% stake in the Sakhalin-1 project

TOKYO, January 26. /TASS/. Brunei will start supplying extra volumes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) to Japan since April of this year, Nikkei newspaper said on Thursday.

The new contract was made with Japan’s Japex. No details of the deal have been reported.

Japan is the world’s largest buyer of liquefied natural gas. Australia accounts for about 35% of LNG deliveries to Japan. It is followed by Malaysia (13%), Qatar (12%), and the United States (9.5%). Supplies from Russia stand at about 8.8%. Brunei accounts for about 5.8% of Japan’s LNG imports.
