Russian hi-tech corporation Rostec may set up cartridge-making unit by year-end

As was reported earlier, Rostec was establishing a new cartridge holding company to give an impetus to the development of Russia’s cartridge and small arms industry and civilian output

MOSCOW, April 22. /TASS/. Russia’s state hi-tech corporation Rostec is planning to set up a cartridge-making holding company on the basis of the Central Research Institute of Precision Machine-Building (TsNIITochMash) already this year, Rostec Industrial Director for Conventional Armaments, Munitions and Special Chemistry Sergei Abramov said on Monday.

"We are now preparing an initiative, including consultations, in the cartridge and small arms industry under TsNIITochMash’s leading role. …We went through the procedure of the approval of certain amendments to the regulatory base," Abramov said after a Rostec meeting on drafting a comprehensive program for developing the small arms and munitions industry. He made this statement while replying to a question about progress in setting up the cartridge-making holding company.

The amendments may be legislatively formalized this year, he noted.

"We expect that they will be introduced soon in an established procedure through the government and the State Duma. We expect that all the decisions will be made this year," Abramov explained.

As was reported earlier, Rostec was establishing a new cartridge holding company to give an impetus to the development of Russia’s cartridge and small arms industry and civilian output. The holding company is being set up on the basis of the TsNIITochMash Institute that is engaged in developing and producing small arms and munitions. The holding company will also comprise the Koshkin Automatic Lines Design Bureau, which manufactures equipment for the production of munitions and cartridges.
