Yakutia invests more than $23 million in Clean Country regional project

By 2024, the region will close four illegal dumps in four cities and a storage of tailings at the former Kular gold-extraction plant

YAKUTSK, April 18. /TASS/. Yakutia will invest more than 1.5 billion rubles ($23 million) in the Clean Country regional project under the Ecology National Project, the regional government’s press service said on Thursday.

"Yakutia will allocate for the Clean Country regional project under the federal Ecology program more than 1.5 billion rubles," the press service said.

By 2024, the region will close four illegal dumps in four cities and a most hazardous object - a storage of tailings at the former Kular gold-extraction plant in the region’s north. The closed plant is a potentially hazardous object, which still keeps toxic materials.

The Ecology National Project includes federal programs on clean air, clean country, waste-handling, pure drinking water, and on keeping the Baikal Lake and the forests. Yakutia participates in four programs.
