World Bank elects senior US Treasury official David Malpass as new president

WASHINGTON, April 5. /TASS/. US Under Secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs David Malpass was approved on Friday as the new president of the World Bank. According to TASS correspondent, Malpass takes office on April 9.

In the next five years, the new president will head all organizations of the World Bank group, including the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Malpass became the only candidate for the post, the organization said earlier.

US President Donald Trump nominated David Malpass, known for his conservative views, to lead the bank on February 6 after Jim Yong Kim left the post on February 1.
