According to regional authorities, investments in the project are estimated at some $40 mln

YAKUTSK, April 1. /TASS/. Projects to upgrade two Arctic ports in Yakutia will be presented at the Arctic forum on April 9-10 in St. Petersburg, the region’s Ministry of Water and Rail Transport told TASS.

"The Tiksi sea port in Yakutia’s Bulunsky District will be presented as a double-purpose port," the authority said. "We have been working actively with the Defense Ministry and expect to sign an agreement with it on the port’s development."

Investments in the project are estimated at 2.6 billion rubles ($40 million), the ministry added.

Another project, the region will present at the forum, is upgrade of the Zeleny Mys river port.

"The port’s development is linked to coal production at the Zyryanovsk field, and the coal’s transportation to Russia’s other regions, including to Chukotka," the ministry said. "The project requires investments of 900 million rubles ($13.7 million)."

The Tiksi sea port is on the Laptev Sea. It handles food, industrial cargoes, construction materials, fuel and equipment.

The Zeleny Mys river port is 130km from where the Kolyma River drains into the East Siberian Sea.
