Northern Sea Route’s development is a key driver of the Arctic development, says official

TASS, March 21. Development of the Northern Sea Route (NSR) will be a key topic on agenda of the Arctic: Territory of Dialogue forum in St. Petersburg on April 9-10, Presidential Plenipotentiary in the Far Eastern Federal District and Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Trutnev told reporters on Wednesday.

"Practical efforts to develop the Northern Sea Route will take a big part of the forum’s agenda," he said in response to a question about the Arctic forum’s program.

NSR’s development is a key driver of the Arctic development, he continued. "The current projects, first of all those by the Novatek company, require the Northern Sea Route is used year-round."

The International Arctic Forum - Arctic: Territory of Dialogue - is a key platform for discussing the Arctic region’s problems and development at the international level. The event was organized for the first time in 2010. The 5th ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ International Arctic Forum will take place in St. Petersburg on April 9-10, 2019.
