US Federal Reserve System keeps base interest rate at 2-2.5%

WASHINGTON, March 20. /TASS/. The US Federal Reserve System acting as the national central bank has kept the base interest rate at the level of 2-25%, the Federal Open Market Committee said Wednesday after the meeting.

The US regulator expects at the same time that the rate will be increased once this year.

The market was almost 100% confident that the rate will be kept. Bloomberg poll revealed that all 94 questioned economists expected the Fed to keep the interest rate.

The regulator also published a revised outlook for basic macroeconomic indicators and lowered the forecast for US GDP growth to 2.1% in 2019.

The Federal Reserve raised the rate four times in 2018.

The dollar lost 0.41% to 64.13 rubles on the Moscow Exchange after the announced decision to keep the base interest rate.
