Opel to start sales of three car models in Russia in Q4 2019

Earlier it was reported that the brand would return to the Russian market

MOSCOW, March 14. /TASS/. PSA Peugeot Citroen plans to initiate sales of three new models of Opel cars in Russia in the fourth quarter of 2019, the automaker says in its press release on Thursday.

"Grandland X, Zafira Life and Vivaro to be available in Russia in fourth quarter," the company says.

Opel Zafira Life and Opel Vivaro will produced at the plant in Kaluga. The lineup is said to be expanded gradually. Opel dealership chain will be presented by Opel dealers and new partners located in large Russian cities.

"Russia is a large, strategically important and attractive market with a lot of potential. As a German brand with a long-standing tradition and an excellent reputation in the country, we will benefit from this," Opel CEO Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller said in a comment.

"The launch of a new brand on the Russian market will allow the Groupe PSA to strengthen its presence in the Eurasia region, expand the offer for existing customers and win new ones," said Yannick B·zard, Executive Vice President and Operational Director Eurasia, Groupe PSA.

The Opel brand is returning to the Russian market, Groupe PSA said earlier.

General Motors, the previous owner of Opel, completely halted and mothballed production at the Russian plant in St. Petersburg in 2015. PSA Peugeot-Citroen bought the German company from GM in 2017.
