Russian transport ministry sees no reason to charge passengers for airport check-in

Russia’s current federal aviation regulations oblige air carriers to include check-in fees into the ticket price

MOSCOW, March 6. /TASS/. Russia’s transport ministry said it saw no reasons for making passenger check-in in Russian airports a chargeable service, a ministry spokesperson told TASS on Wednesday, commenting on a similar proposal by Russia’s low-cost air carrier Pobeda.

"We have answered Pobeda’s request. At the moment, there is no legal basis for the measure," the source said.

In late 2018, Pobeda CEO Andrey Kalmykov said in an interview with RBC that the company requested the Russian Transport Ministry to allow carriers to exclude passenger and baggage check-in fee from the overall price of their tickets, making them pay for it as a separate service.

At present, Russia’s federal aviation rules oblige air carriers to include the check-in fee into the ticket price.
