Austria to continue developing Nord Stream 2, buying gas from Russia — chancellor

WASHINGTON, February 21. /TASS/. Austria to continue developing the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project and will buy gas from Russia because it is cheaper than American gas, Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz told ORF-2 TV channel after talks with US President Donald Trump in Washington.

Kurz noted that at the meeting, Trump said that he is against the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. "We support this project, and we are interested in Austria's supply security and want Austria to have gas for heating, gas for our companies to ensure production," the chancellor said adding that "we will continue to develop this project."

"Russia's price [for gas] is better than that of the US, and Russia will continue to be a more appealing partner for us," Kurz noted.
