Russians detained for working illegally in South Korea more often, says Foreign Ministry

The relevant Russian-South Korean agreement on mutual abolition of visa requirements does not provide for the possibility of visa-free entry for the purpose of employment, Moscow recalled

MOSCOW, February 18. /TASS/. Russian citizens have been detained and deported for working illegally in South Korea increasingly more often, the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Consular Department said in a statement posted on its Facebook page on Monday.

"According to the South Korean Foreign Ministry, Russian nationals have recently been detained and deported for working illegally in the country more often," the statement runs.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, "the Russian-South Korean intergovernmental agreement on mutual abolition of visa requirements of 2013 does not provide for the possibility of visa-free entry for the purpose of employment." "Such a violation of South Korea’s migration legislation involves deportation and denial of entry to that country," the ministry stressed.

"According to the South Korean side, some individuals and organizations provide assistance to foreigners in illegal entry and employment in the Republic of Korea and in preparing forged documents for obtaining refugee status. In light of that, the South Korean Ministry of Justice urges foreign citizens to provide information on these individuals and organizations by March 31, 2019," the Consular Department added.
