Nornickel allocates 59.5 million rubles for projects in Norilsk and on Taimyr

Among the competition winners are ten school projects

KRASNOYARSK, February 18. /TASS/. The Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) under its grant program World of New Opportunities allocated in 2018 almost 60 million rubles to non-governmental and budget organizations in Norilsk and on Taimyr. The official award ceremony was organized on Friday during a forum of social technologies, dubbed City is Us, the company told TASS.

The forum worked in Norilsk (the Krasnoyarsk Region) on Friday, February 15, and on March 2-3 it will take place in the Murmansk region (in Monchegorsk and Nickel).

"We have received applications from 126 non-governmental and budget organizations in Norilsk and in the Taimyr District - the total of 202 applications," the company said. "Experts have chosen 63 projects from 57 organizations, which deserve financial support, where the grants fund made 59.476 million rubles ($899,000)."

Among the competition winners are ten school projects, including a project in Taimyr’s Nosok settlement, which is devoted to culture of the local Nenets District. Besides, Nornickel will support an ecology project from Taimyr’s natural reserves’ authority - the project is devoted to the Putorana plateau’s central area.

Comfortable urban environment

The forum featured about 1,000 participants. Experts in urban development and architecture discussed urban space and infrastructures.

According to Norilsk’s Deputy Mayor on social issues Svetlana Baburina, the city’s Zapolyarnik stadium is a local center of attraction, as well as the park area around it. In future, another similar center would be an embankment of the Dolgoye Lake, on which Nornickel and the local authorities have been working. The embankment will have a stroll area with an alley, pedestrian sidewalks, bicycle paths, an observation deck and a sports area.

The forum in Norilsk ended with a performance devoted to Nornickel’s volunteers. The play, performed by the company’s amateurs, is based on volunteers’ stories.

The forum of social technologies is an event of Nornickel’s World of New Opportunities program. Traditionally, the forum takes place in the Krasnoyarsk Region (Norilsk and Taimyr) and in the Murmansk Region.
