Sberbank may attract private investments for social facilities’ construction on Yamal

In particular, the region plans to build to 2021 five schools and 13 kindergartens

TASS, February 14. The Yamalo-Nenets Region and Russia’s largest savings bank Sberbank will develop public-private partnership projects to build social and educational facilities. The region’s Governor Dmitry Artyukhov and the bank’s CEO Hernan Gref inked an agreement during the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi, the Yamalo-Nenets Region’s government reported on its website on Thursday.

"Yamal’s government and Sberbank have entered an agreement on cooperation in construction of social and educational facilities in the form of public-private partnership," the government’s statement reads. "At the Russian Investment Forum in Sochi, the agreement was signed by the region’s Governor Dmitry Artyukhov and Sberbank’s CEO Hernan Gref."

According to the government, the region plans to build to 2021 five schools and 13 kindergartens, attracting private investments. "The document we have signed today is important for development of public-private partnership in the region," the government quoted the region’s head as saying. "In cooperation with Sberbank we shall offer more attractive conditions for investors, who would be prepared to participate in construction of schools and kindergartens."

"Sberbank is ready to offer funds and bank guarantees for the facilities on Yamal, as well as to attract to the project Russian and foreign investors," the government’s statement said, adding potential investors would receive necessary consultations.

The Yamalo-Nenets Region has been using public-private partnership mechanisms since 2014 to build six kindergartens for 1,300 children and schools in the town of Muravlenko, the government said.
