European Commission reiterates its position on EU gas directive

As reported earlier, Germany and France prepared an accommodating version of amendments to the EU Gas Directive

BRUSSELS, February 8. /TASS/. The European Commission (EC) has not changed its position on amendments to the EU Gas Directive, EC spokesperson Anca Paduraru said on Friday.

"Member-states are currently discussing the common approach [towards Directive amendments - TASS]. If the Council adopts the general approach, the trialogue negotiations [with the EU Council and the European Parliament] could start next week," she said. "The Commission does not change its mind," she added.

As reported earlier, Germany and France prepared an accommodating version of amendments to the EU Gas Directive. The essence of the proposal of Germany and France is that the country with the point of gas intake from the offshore pipeline in its territory will acquire the right to select the formula for application of EU Gas Directive provisions and possible exceptions from it. The proposal should gain support of all other EU countries now.
