Medvedev arrives in Almaty to attend session of EAEU Intergovernmental Council

The Russian prime minister will also attend the international forum Digital Agenda into the Globalization 2.0.

ALMATY, January 31. /TASS/. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday arrived in Almaty, Kazakhstan, to take part in a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council and a plenary session of the Digital Agenda into the Globalization 2.0. Forum due to be held on February 1.

According to the press service of the Russian government, the prime ministers of the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union) nations "will discuss current issues of integration cooperation within the Eurasian Economic Union." They are expected to discuss the implementation of the Intergovernmental Council’s resolutions, the implementation of the EAEU’s digital agenda, measures to ensure freedom of movement of goods, services and labor force within the Union, as well as certain aspects of customs regulation.

"Members of the Intergovernmental Council will exchange views on the state of mutual trade in 2018, on current tendencies of economic development of member states and initiatives towards promoting sustainable economic growth," the press service said.

While in Almaty, the Russian prime minister will also attend the international forum Digital Agenda into the Globalization 2.0. according to the forum’s organizers, its key goal is to elaborate joint measures to encourage the development of digital economies in the EAEU nations as a step towards raising their competitive advantages.

The annual forum was first held at Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev’s initiative in 2018. The program includes five panel discussions dedicated to the EAEU’s digital agenda, innovative ecosystems, promoting sustainable development and digitalization of small and medium businesses.
