GORKI, January 28. /TASS/. Import substitution is important in implementation of the MC-21 passenger jet projects in view of ongoing introduction of restrictions for Russia, including the aviation sphere, Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday.
The localization level for development of MC-21 passenger airliner should be 97% by 2022 so that there is no actual dependence on imported supplies, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said at the meeting with the Prime Minister.
"This is important information," Medvedev noted. "Particularly that attempts are constantly made to through sand in our wheels, including the aviation industry," he said. "No doubts that we will complete import substitution here as well and that the aircraft will be very good indeed," the Prime Minister said.
MC-21 is a medium-haul passenger jet being developed by the United Aircraft Corporation. It performed its first flight at the end of May 2017. First jets are expected to be delivered in 2020. Certificating and the launch of serial production are also due in 2020.
