Shokhin expects US sanction against Rusal to stay in place

In April, the US added Rusal, En +, Eurosibenergo to the sanctions list over the association with Oleg Deripaska, in late 2018, the US Treasury announced a decision on the possible lift of sanctions

MOSCOW, January 15. / TASS /. The head of the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP), Alexander Shokhin, expects that US sanctions against Rusal will stay in place, said he on Tuesday on the sidelines on the Gaidar Forum.

"They [sanctions] will stay as is; the Democrats have already settled in their places, they will start now. First of all against Rusal. Stephen Mnuchin did not seem to convince the Democrats in Congress that it is necessary to take the sanctions off "Rusal," said Shokhin.

In April 2018, the United States added Rusal, En +, Eurosibenergo and others to the sanctions list because of the association with Oleg Deripaska. Entering the list means freezing assets in the United States and prohibiting American citizens from engaging in any business with these companies.

In December, the US Treasury announced a decision to lift the sanctions on En +, Rusal and Eurosibenergo, because Deripaska, at the request of the US Treasury, will reduce his share in them. The entrepreneur himself will remain on the list while assets in which he owns 50% or more will remain blocked.

In January of this year, the leader of the Democratic Minority in the US Senate, Chuck Schumer, called on Republicans to refuse to support the decision of the US administration to lift restrictions on the assets of the Russian billionaire.
