Rosatom prepares new national project to develop nuclear technologies

The idea was supported by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and is now being discussed by the Russian government

MOSCOW, January 13. /TASS/. Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom has prepared a new national project to promote nuclear technologies and scientific research, Rosatom head Sergei Likhachev said in an interview with the Rossiya-24 TV channel on Saturday.

"We are seeking the adoption of one more national project, headlined "Nuclear science, equipment and technologies. It would help to achieve a real breakthrough in closing the nuclear fuel cycle, creating low-power reactors, studying thermonuclear energy and creating practical facilities to process fuel for fast-neutron reactors," he said.

Likhachev went on to say that the idea was supported by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and is now being discussed by the Russian government.

"My great hope is that a positive decision will be made," the Rosatom head said.
