Nornickel’s decision on Talnakh plant’s another stage is due in 2019

Initially, the decision was due in 2018

KRASNOYARSK, December 14. /TASS/. The Norilsk Nickel Company (Nornickel) may adopt an investment decision regarding construction of its Talnakh processing plant’s third stage (north of the Krasnoyarsk Region) in early 2019, the company told TASS on Friday.

"The final investment decision may be adopted early next year," the company said. Earlier, Nornickel said the decision was due in 2018, but, according to Nornickel’s representative, certain necessary procedures have caused the delay.

The Talnakh processing plant went operational in 1981. In April 2013, Nornickel announced its upgrade, and the plant’s first upgraded stage was opened in January 2015. After that upgrade, the amount of processed material remained unchanged - about 7.5 million tonnes a year, but the effectiveness and quality have grown greatly.

After the second stage began working in 2016, the plant processed annually up to ten million tonnes of copper-nickel ores. The company said earlier, that at the third stage, by 2019, the plant’s capacity would grow to 16.5 million tonnes a year.

The Talnakh plant’s upgrade is also focused on the environment protection. The growing quality of concentrates will cut polluting emissions.
