G20 summit confirms willingness of key economies to work together

This is the most important achievement of the summit, says Russia's envoy

MOSCOW, December 4. /TASS/. The main achievement of the G20 summit in Argentina was a confirmation of the readiness to work together and strengthen the key institutions of global governance, Russian G20 Sherpa Svetlana Lukash said on Tuesday.

"The main result of the summit is a confirmation, that all key economies are ready to work together based on common rules and approaches, that everyone is ready to strengthen key institutions of global governance, which are the basis for preventing possible development of negative trends," Lukash said, noting the indisputable Argentina’s Presidency in the G20. According to Lukash, the main goal of the Argentina’s Presidency was to reach a consensus, which was eventually found.

"This is the most important achievement of the summit and the fact that Argentina’s Presidency was ready to work on it, played a big part," she said.

According to Lukas, this was difficult to achieve. "Perhaps it was one of the most difficult summits, in particular, it took almost six days to agree on the final communique. It is an unprecedented situation, but the fact is we were able to agree," she said, noting that a number of controversial issues were discussed directly by the leaders, and their decisions eventually helped to find a consensus and adopt a final declaration.
