Russian Energy Ministry expects to receive Denmark’s decision on Nord Stream 2 shortly

Denmark is the last from five countries, where the gas pipeline will be laid, but the country has not yet issued a formal decision

NOVO-OGAREVO, November 29. /TASS/. The Russian Ministry of Energy expects to receive a decision from Denmark in the near future concerning the request to lay the Nord Stream 2 through territorial waters of the kingdom, Energy Minister Alexander Novak told reporters on Thursday.

"We expect our Danish colleagues will make relevant decisions. As you know, two applications were presented. The second one is for the route outside territorial waters of Denmark. We believe our Danish colleagues should make up their mind anytime soon and take the decision," the minister said.

Denmark is the last from five countries, where the new gas pipeline will be laid. However, it has not yet consented to pipelay through its territorial waters. Russia, Germany, Finland and Sweden approved the project earlier.

The Nord Stream 2 pipeline is expected to come into service at the end of 2019. The pipeline is set to run along the Russian Baltic Sea coast bed to the German shore. Each of the pipeline’s two stretches will have a capacity of 27.5 bln cubic meters. The new pipeline will double the capacity of the first stretch and will basically follow its route. The total cost of the pipeline is estimated at 9.5 bln euro.

Swiss Nord Stream 2 AG was established for the planning, construction and operation of the gas pipeline. Gazprom is the only shareholder of Nord Stream-2 AG. France’s Engie, Austria’s OMV, British-Dutch Royal Dutch Shell, Germany’s Uniper and Wintershall are Gazprom’s European partners in the Nord Stream pipeline project.
