Austria will not give up support for Nord Stream-2 project, says chancellor

Nord Stream-2 is a project for laying two pipelines having an annual throughput of 55 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea

VIENNA, November 29. /TASS/. The gas pipeline Nord Stream-2 is an important economic and energy project for Austria and Vienna has no intention to give up support for it, Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said on Thursday.

"For us it is an important and positive project from the standpoint of energy policy and the economy," the Austrian news agency quotes Kurz as saying.

He remarked that the United States was critical of Austria’s support for Nord Stream-2, but Vienna was in no mood to change its attitude.

"We will not change our mind, just as the Germans and many others," Kurz said.

Nord Stream-2 is a project for laying two pipelines having an annual throughput of 55 billion cubic meters of gas from Russia to Germany under the Baltic Sea. The project’s construction costs are estimated at 9.5 billion euros. The gas carrier’s launch is due by the end of 2019.
