Putin to discuss energy security with Security Council on November 29

On November 29, Vladimir Putin will chair a session of the Russian Security Council to discuss energy security, the Kremlin says

MOSCOW, November 28. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin will chair on Thursday a session of the Russian Security Council to discuss energy security, the Kremlin press service said on Wednesday.

"Plans are to consider additional measures to ensure energy security of the country," it said in a report.

On the same day, the president will address a congress of the All-Russia People’s Front as well as will meet with the new Central Staff of the movement. "The congress will specify efficient instruments of people’s control over the implementation of 12 national projects in the president’s May Decree," the press service said.

Putin is meeting permanent members of the Security Council on key current issues on a regular basis, as a rule once a week. About twice a year he convenes the Security Council in a broader format to focus on one major issue. The latest ‘big’ sessions of the Security Council were held in April 2018 and in October 2017, focusing on border policy and security of infrastructure.

The Energy Security Doctrine in its present wording was approved by the Russian president in November 2012. In June 2018, the press service of the Security Council said a session of the council’s interdepartmental commission for security in the economic and social sectors had worked out recommendations for amending its provisions concerning challenges, threats and risks on that trajectory, principles, tasks and framework arrangements for ensuring Russia’s energy security. According to the press service, plans were to amend the doctrine before the end of this year.
