Murmansk Region to develop culinary tourism

The Murmansk Region’s government and the AgroEcoTourism non-governmental organization signed a memorandum on cooperation to develop culinary tourism in the region

MURMANSK, November 13. /TASS/. The Murmansk Region’s government and the AgroEcoTourism non-governmental organization signed a memorandum on cooperation to develop culinary tourism in the region, a TASS correspondent reported on Monday.

"Under the memorandum, we shall receive assistance in methods," the region’s Deputy Governor Olga Kuznetsova told TASS on sidelines of the Murmansk International Business Week. "We shall use the international and regional experiences to upgrade the local tourism."

AgroEcoTourism will also offer support in coordinating activities between the local authorities and tourism businesses, she added.

According to her, the region will organize the Arctic cuisine festivals. The first event is due in the resort city of Kirovsk in December - it will open the ski season there. The Murmansk Region will continue promoting its brand "Made in the Arctic". Among best culinary attractions the official named luminaria marmalade, which is made in the Teriberka village.

President of Russia’s Federation of Restaurateurs and Hoteliers Igor Bukharov said the Murmansk Region may compete with the northern regions in deer dishes and with the Far East in seafood. "There is an opinion that the Arctic cuisine exists in the Far East only, but the Murmansk Region has fresh sea products, while the distance to Moscow is only 2,000 kilometers, which is a big advantage," he said. "Efforts here should be aimed at promoting the region, at available information for tourists."

The Murmansk International Business Week is an annual forum, which is a key business event in the Murmansk Region and which is a major platform for the Barents/Euro-Arctic Region. The forum attracts about 3,000 participants from more than 20 Russian regions and from about a dozen countries.
