SHANGHAI, November 4. /TASS/. Russian and Chinese media outlets should be ready to create new information channels amid unfair competition on the global media market, Russia’s Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Alexei Volin said on the sidelines of a Russian-Chinese media forum in Shanghai on Sunday.
"Having emerged as influential players on the global media market, Russian and Chinese media outlets have inevitably started facing unfair competition, which particularly results in the fact that the verity of the policy they follow is questioned or direct restrictions on information distribution arise," Volin said.
According to deputy minister, "in this situation both Russia and China need to draft common approaches… and develop responses aimed not at discrimination of media outlets of neighboring countries, but at the ability to get across their viewpoint and their content to other regions, other people." "Here means of distribution also play a very important role, meaning both technological platforms and the environments for distributing information," he noted.
"If Twitter, YouTube or Facebook wend their way to throwing Russian and Chinese media away from their environment, we will have no other choice but to create new distribution channels, think about alternative media and messengers," Volin stressed. "Though we very much hope that it will not go that far, we definitely should be ready for that," he said.
