Russia and China are facing unfair competition in the media space from certain "partners and competitors" that try to restrict the spreading of high quality and fair content, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov said at a plenary session of a Russian-Chinese media forum in Shanghai on Sunday.

"Today the leading media outlets of Russia and China are working at this platform, and I have to say that they work not only for their national audience, but for many countries around the world. It is not an exaggeration to say that here are people that shape the media agenda for more than 1.5 bln people in the world with an impressive outreach not only in their countries, but in all parts of the world," he said.

However, that triggers not only pride of Russia and China, but also envy of certain "partners and competitors," Akimov noted. "We very often face unfair competition, with attempts to restrict, and probably suppress the spreading of high quality and fair content, discredit our products, accuse us of spreading propaganda and made-up stories sometimes through the use of force in the modern sense of the term," he explained. "That all is becoming a pretext for depriving the public of many countries of the world of a fair view or, at least, an alternative point of view," Deputy PM added.

According to Akimov, that only evidences that Russia and China are influential players nowadays, "which obviously irritates those who have been shaping a monopoly information and political agenda in the multipolar world for the past several decades.".
