Moscow Exchange expects first Green Bonds to be floated by year-end

The Russian Ministry of Industry is carrying out work in this direction

MOSCOW, November 1. /TASS/. First Green Bonds can be floated in Russia by the year-end, Chief Executive Officer of the Moscow Exchange Alexander Afanasyev told TASS on Thursday.

"I think we will see the first deal at the year-end. At least we are close [to the offering - TASS] with one issuer," Afanasyev said.

"An expert review is needed that bonds are ‘green;’ an issuer’s statement alone does not suffice. We are not specialists in this matter, in these technologies. Verifiers are engaged for these purposes on the European market, providing a conclusion on conformance of projects funded by bonds to ‘green’ principles of ICMA or other ‘green’ standards," the top manager said.

The Russian Ministry of Industry is carrying work in this direction, he added.

Green Bonds are debt securities with money from floating the same allocated for financing of environment protection projects. They have not been floated so far on the Russian market.
