Kremlin adviser warning of dollar’s toxicity, suggests Armenia use rubles for gas payments

Russian president’s adviser Sergei Glazyev said dollar "has become a toxic currency"

YEREVAN, October 23. /TASS/. Armenia should better pay for Russian gas in Russia’s currency, the ruble, Russian president’s adviser Sergei Glazyev said on Tuesday.

"Amidst the anti-Russian financial sanctions, we cannot afford to use the dollar in transactions between our countries because the dollar has become a toxic currency. Any use of the dollar in our relations is fraught with political risks that may entail failures or forfeitures. Gazprom uses rubles in its operations in Russia, so, it will be logical when the gas agreement is in rubles as well," he said.

"Armenia and Russia should review the contract and rewrite not only the provisions of the payment currency but also the terms of pricing."

Currently, Armenia pays the Russian side a sum of 150 US dollars per 1,000 cubic meters of gas, which is pumped and sold by a Gazprom subsidiary.
