North-West Partnership, Komi Region agree to develop Arctic tourism, projects

The work shall boost implementation of investment projects and will favor further the region’s social and economic development, the regional head’s press service said

SYKTYVKAR, July 20. /TASS/. The Komi Region and the North-West Strategic Partnership agreed to develop jointly tourism and big industrial projects, the regional head’s press service said on Friday.

"Under the signed agreement, jointly with the counterparts we shall synchronize our actions with neighboring regions, with development plans of major companies, working in the North-Western District," the press service quoted the region’s head Sergei Gaplikov as saying. "Thus, the work shall boost implementation of investment projects and will favor further the region’s social and economic development."

"Our priority cooperation directions include development of the Arctic zone and of the region’s tourism potential," he added.

Another direction for cooperation is representation of the Komi Region, and the North-West’s other regions, in the format of "united platform" at various forums and exhibitions. The signed agreement is aimed at development of the region’s historical, cultural and tourism potentials, including under the project, dubbed Silver Necklace of Russia, and at development of socially important events in patriotic and spiritual-moral education, the Partnership’s Executive Director Alexei Bagaryakov said.

The North-West Strategic Partnership is working since 2012 at the office of the Russian president’s representation in the North-Western Federal District. It supports activities in social and economic policies, investment and social programs and projects.
