International Arctic forum in Arkhangelsk is scheduled for April, 2019

The event is a biggest platform for discussing with foreign partners the Arctic’s current problems and ways to develop the region

MOSCOW, July 16. /TASS/. The 5th International Arctic forum, dubbed Arctic: Territory of Dialogue, in Arkhangelsk is planned for April 9-10, 2019, the event’s organizer, the Roscongress Foundation, said.

The event, which takes place every other year, is a biggest platform for discussing with foreign partners the Arctic’s current problems and ways to develop the region.

"The international Arctic forum has become a major platform for an open dialogue on the Arctic agenda," the Russian President’s Aide, the forum’s Secretary of the organizing committee Anton Kobyakov said. "The event’s participants focus on ways to improve life in the Arctic region, keeping its unique ecology potential; on sustainable social and economic development of the Polar territories and on improvement of international cooperation to face those problems."

While picking the dates, the organizers took into consideration climate conditions in the northern latitudes as well as calendar of big international events in the political, economic and religious spheres. The forum will take place at the Lomonosov Northern (Arctic) Federal University, the official added.

About the Forum

The first forum took place in 2010 and was devoted to modern problems of the Arctic region. The second forum in 2011 focused on formation of the Arctic transport systems, the event in 2013 touched upon environmental safety.

In 2017, the event’s key topic was "People and the Arctic." The forum’s organizer is the Roscongress Foundation. The Fourth Forum took place in Arkhangelsk on March 29-30, 2017. TASS was the event’s general information sponsor. The forum featured more than 2,400 participants, including 468 media representatives, from Russia and 31 countries: Australia, Austria, Belgium, the UK, Vietnam, Germany, Greenland, Denmark, India, Ireland, Iceland, Spain, Italy, Canada, Kenya, Cyprus, China, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Poland, Abkhazia, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, the U.S., the Faroe Islands, Finland, France, Switzerland, Sweden and Japan.
