Russia to remove restrictions on Turkish tomatoes from May 1

The ban will be lifted from all Turkish producers

MOSCOW, April 27. /TASS/. Russia is going to allow imports of tomatoes from all Turkish producers from May 1, not only those that were included in the list of earlier approved exporters, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance (Rosselkhoznadzor) said on Friday.

Thus, the agricultural watchdog considers it possible, under guarantees of the Turkish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, to allow imports of tomatoes from Turkey to the territory of Russia from May 1, 2018, without any restrictions on enterprises from production sited free from tomato moth.

Earlier, imports of tomatoes to Russia from Turkey was allowed for 20 enterprises.

Phytosanitary control of Turkish tomatoes at Russian border checkpoints will be carried out jointly with specialists from Turkey.

The Russian Ministry of Agriculture press service told TASS, the current quota for the supplies of Turkish tomatoes to Russia of 50,000 tonnes per year is not canceled until it is worked out. After that, the question of its expansion or cancellation will be decided.
