Russian Strategic Missile Force to double missile launches in 2018

According to earlier reports, this year’s launches of Topol missiles were conducted to test advanced military equipment

MOSCOW, December 15. /TASS/. Russia’s Strategic Missile Force (SMF) plan to double the number of missile launches next year - from six to 12, SMF Commander Col. Gen. Sergei Karakayev said in an interview with the Krasnaya Zvezda newspaper on Friday.

"In 2017, five launches were held, and one more is scheduled. In 2018, we intend to hold 12 launches," the official said.

According to earlier reports, this year’s launches of Topol missiles were held to test advanced military equipment.

Karakayev said that technical specifications of Topol missiles are similar to those of Yars missiles. The launches of missiles whose lifespan is about to expire allows to dismantle them and test other military equipment at a lower cost.
