KALININGRAD, December 7. /TASS/. Russia’s newest Sukhoi-30SM fighter jets will complement Baltic Fleet’s aviation group in 2017, the fleet’s press-service said on Wednesday, adding that the first plane of this type would land at an air base in Chernyakhovsk, near Kaliningrad on December 8.
"Several more such planes will be provided for the Baltic Sea Fleet’s air group under the government defense contract in 2017," the news release runs.
Several crews selected to fly the Sukhoi-30SM jets have already undergone retraining at a naval air pilots’ training center in Yeisk. They are expected to share newly-acquired skills with their colleagues at the airbase as more planes arrive.
The Sukhoi-30SM is the latest configuration of Russia’s multirole heavy fighter Sukhoi-30 (generation 4Plus). It is highly maneuverable and equipped with a phased array antenna radar, thrust vector control and front stabilizers.
