Presentation of 3rd Military World Games to take place in Latvia’s Jurmala

MOSCOW, October 3. /TASS/. The presentation of the 3rd Military World Games will be made in Latvia’s Jurmala in the framework of the European Conference of the International Military Sports Council (CISM), the Russian Foreign Ministry’s department of information and mass communications said on Monday.

"The key event of the conference will be a presentation of the 3rd Winter Military World Games held in Sochi in 2017 by the project’s curator, Mayor of the Dutch Armed Forces, Johan Groen. Mayor Groen will present to the delegates the program of competitions and detailed infrastructure of the Games," the department said.

The Military World Games will be held on February 22-28. The opening ceremony will take place on February 23 to coincide with the celebrations of the Russian Fatherland Defender Day.

Over 200 athletes from 40 countries will take part in the Games. Forty-four sets of medals will be up for grabs in individual and team disciplines. The sports program will include seven disciplines: biathlon, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, ski orienteering, ski mountaineering, sport climbing and short-track.

The competition will be held at Olympic sports facilities in Sochi.
