On September 21, Iran traditionally marked the anniversary of the eight-year-long war with Iraq, which began in 1980. The parade was held in front of the mausoleum of the Iranian Republic’s founder, Imam Ruhollah Musavi Khomeini. Iran’s senior military commanders, including the top officials of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps and foreign military attaches observed the march-past from VIP stands.
