Russian defense minister seeks to fine-tune military cooperation between Baku and Moscow

Sergei Shoigu plans to discuss security cooperation in the Caspian Sea with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Zakir Gasanov

BAKU, August 15. /TASS/. Russia’s military and technical cooperation efforts with Azerbaijan require some adjusting, Russian Defense Minister, Sergei Shoigu, noted at talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Zakir Gasanov.

"I think we will have an opportunity today to discuss the security situation in this region and in the Middle East," he said. "In addition to that, we have a vast military and technical cooperation program, which too requires fine-tuning and addressing a number of issues. I am sure we will find a solution to these issues."

The minister added that he planned to discuss security cooperation in the Caspian Sea. "Of course, I hope that the plans and programs prepared by us last year will be implemented to the full extent," the minister pointed out.

For his part, Gasanov emphasized that Shoigu’s visit "is of great importance for the development of bilateral military and technical cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia."

Shoigu arrived in Baku on Sunday. His working visit to Azerbaijan began with a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
