MOSCOW, June 30. /TASS/. There is no great need for a permanent Russian military base in Syria, the corresponding issue will be decided by the Russian Defense Ministry depending on the country’s military-political situation, Russian Ambassador to Syria Alexander Kinshchak told reporters on Thursday.
"The question of how much we need it there will be decided in accordance with the military-political developments in Syria and around it," he said. "In the view of the Defense Ministry, there is no great military need to have an additional airfield there."
Kinshchak recalled a statement made by Russian officials that the necessary military tasks might as well be fulfilled from Russia’s territory. "There is no special need in an additional aerodrome (in Syria)," he said.
