The experts will first fly over the coast and area of the Barents Sea and then over the coast of the Franz-Joseph Land and the central area of the Arctic Ocean

MOSCOW, April 5. /TASS/. Experts of the Russian Airborne Forces and the Aerospace Forces will check within the next few days places for the landing of troops in the Arctic, the Russian Defense Ministry press service reported on Tuesday.

"A group of experts dispatched to the Arctic will check within the coming days the condition of drifting ice floes in the Arctic Ocean for determining the areas for dropping cargoes and possible landing of troops. The experts will first fly over the coast and area of the Barents Sea and then over the coast of the Franz-Joseph Land and the central area of the Arctic Ocean," the report says.

After that the integrated team will examine several largest drifting ice floes to check the condition of their surface, rate of melting and drift speed.

"The reconnoitering work is planned to be completed in the first quarter of April 2016. The operation is conducted in conjunction with the Expeditionary Center of the Russian Geographical Society," the Russian Defense Ministry said.
