MOSCOW, March 28. /TASS/. A naval group of Russia’s Pacific Fleet comprising the Admiral Vinogradov large anti-submarine warfare ship, the Fotiy Krylov oceanic rescue vessel and the Irkut tanker have departed from the Vladivostok base in the Far East for a long-distance mission, Fleet spokesman Captain 1st Rank Roman Martov said on Monday.
"This voyage has the goals to ensure naval presence and demonstrate the flag in the Pacific and Indian Oceans," the officer said.
During the long-distance voyage, the Pacific Fleet’s naval group will pay unofficial visits to five countries. Also, the sailors will take part in two multinational drills in the Asia-Pacific region in the Pacific and Indian Oceans, the spokesman said.
Currently, the Pacific Fleet’s lead ship, the Varyag missile cruiser, is operational as part of the Russian Navy’s Mediterranean grouping, the officer said.
