Power blackouts in Syria did not affect work of Russian airbase — general

The Hmeimim airbase in Syria’s Latakia has a sufficient number of electric generators to ensure the airfield’s ongoing operation

HMEIMIM AIR BASE /Syria/, March 3 /TASS/. Irregular electricity supplies in Syria have not affected the work of the Hmeimim air base where the Russian air group is deployed, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov told journalists on Thursday.

"The Hmeimim airbase, located in Syria’s Latakia [province], has a sufficient number of electric generators to ensure the airfield’s ongoing operation and the work of all technical and aviation services," Konashenkov said.

"For the moment, all the services are operating normally," the general added.

As it became known earlier on Thursday, all Syrian provinces had been left without electricity. The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported later in the day that the disrupted electricity supplies had resumed in the majority of Syrian provinces.
