Motorized infantry in Russia's Siberian republic Buryatia on combat alert amid snap check

ULAN-UDE, January 15. /TASS/. Motorized infantry units stationed in the Siberian republic of Buryatia have been put on combat alert amid a snap check that started on Friday, the press service of the Eastern military district has said.

The surprise combat readiness check involves motorized infantry, tank, artillery and air defense units.

"In total, more than 2,000 military and around 400 units of combat, special and automobile equipment have been involved," the head of the press service, Alexander Gordeyev, said.

The servicemen were deployed to the firing ranges in the designated areas. "They will accomplish training and combat tasks there," the press service said.

The check is under control of Major-General Dmitry Kovalenko, the commander the Eastern military district’s combined-arms formation.
